The
nation speak:
twenty
questions
this interview was conducted by
Marcus Shepherd
TOBIAS - tobias Zaldua
TOBI - Tobias Zundel
TIM - Tim Moulder

Which Tourist attraction would benefit from
TerryNation playing through its public address system?
TOBIAS: Uluru
TOBI: the
tate modern - erm there's a london vibe and hopefully
people would get into it - I like the big spaces - the
main hallway - it needs us.
TIM: the
pyramids....or the sphinx cause they don't have public
address systems
Who should TerryNation fear?
TIM: hmm
tricky one...no one...definately no one, we are not
afraid
TOBIAS: everyone
TOBI: no
one
Who do TerryNation fear?
TOBI: maybe
themselves...no..
TIM: themselves
TOBIAS: no
one really...but sometimes it's wise to be
cautious...it's an odd question because it would be
better to ask what not who...
then what would you say?
TOBIAS: then
I could say corporations, governments, nations.

You go undercover- which is preferable..and why?
A Bakery..A Government Department or as Teacher.
TOBIAS: the
first thing that springs to mind is a government
department because you think it might involve a bit of
intrigue and drama but it could also be quite dull - a
bakery might be nice - the smell would be better than a
government department - I'd probably say teacher because
you might learn something yourself - I can't remember
anything I was supposed to. You learn to remember what
you need or what interests you.
TOBI: government
department, to be able to reveal the truth if it's out
there.
TIM: not
a bakery 'cause there are too many undercover bread cops
as it is, way too many. Teacher? - no, I just thought of
Kindergarten cop, it's been done - the other one what was
that?
a government department
TIM: yea,
you go deep, know the enemy from the inside.
What do you think Terry Nation would think Of Terry
Nation?
TIM:do you
mean the creator of the daleks or themselves? whatever -
the answer is genius' quite frankly
TOBIAS: he'd
either exterminate us or write us into a television
series where the whole world has gone crazy and a
superpower starts wars to make money and everyone watches
for entertainment. It could never happen.
TOBI: incredible
Which of these three is closest to TerryNation and
why?
An Orange, A mountain Range or A Resignation speech?
TOBIAS: a
resignation speech, or maybe a mountain range...we've
written a few tunes where the mood was this could be the
last tune we ever write - or at least the last tune on
the album...like Let it go or Waiting or slightly
breathless, it makes the emotion work better - can't say
why...... A mountain range is close because there's
clarity for a while, then thin air, lack of
breath....head in the clouds...visions...madness..
TIM: well
I'm closer to a resignation speech - (laughs) an orange
isn't too far away - I personally am much nearer an
orange than a mountain range right now.
TOBI: mountain
range - (long pause) why? (longer pause, drinks tea)
because it's like a world unto itself.

Where would you most like to hide?
TIM: I
can't tell you that - I may need to use it one day
TOBIAS: why
would you do music if you wanted to hide?
TOBI: In
my bed.
Which TerryNation track would you play to a child that
had never been brought up in the outside world and lived
in a controlled environment away from human interaction?
TOBIAS: Let
It Go
TOBI: (long
pause)Slightly Breathless
TIM: All
the Hotels - give it a bit of a world view. Mind you it
would all be fairly meaningless for the child because
there's no frame of reference.
What film ending describes how you feel when you play?
TOBIAS: the
Birds. You know the scene - as they leave the house...
TOBI: that's
a tricky one - I don't really know. Any david lynch film
because I'm usually a bit confused about what's been
going on for the past hour or so.
TIM: Leaving
Las vegas
Which is easier- Breathing Or Thinking?
TOBIAS: surely
they are the same thing. You are still thinking between
breaths. You only notice you are breathing when you stop
to think about it. It's a chicken and egg question.
TOBI: breathing.
TIM: breathing
because you don't have to think to breathe. You think
about breathing maybe - but you don't breathe about
thinking.

If you were to Kidnap Film Director David Lynch what
would you want in exchange and what would you feed him
whilst waiting??
TOBIAS: in
exchange I'd try and get 20 million pounds. I''d hand
over the money to him, tell him to go make another film.
We'd share some fries and think of new ways to die.
TOBI: Feed
him Kaiserschmarrn - then ask for more Kaiserschmarrn.
TIM: I'd
say Branston pickle -hmm and in exchange Martin Scorcese.
How long have you felt like this?
TIM: about
five minutes
TOBI: three
seconds
TOBIAS: always
Which of these Futuristic stories could happen-
Logan's Run? The Time Machine? Or The Survivors?
TIM: Logans
run - this is happening already, blah blah blah.
TOBI: what?
TOBIAS: all
of them, though I have a problem believing in time
travel.
How many more or less days should there be in a week?
TOBI: none
TOBIAS: two
more days in the weekend. The week is the right length.
TIM: three
hundred and sixty two more.

Why is no-one listening when you speak unless you're
talking to someone else?
TOBIAS: everyone
is listening, it's more about whether they are paying
attention.
TOBI: that
never happens to me
TIM: they
are listening they just can't hear you.
For a satisfying fee-You must lease a part of your
body to the government-which part? Why?
TOBIAS: my
left hand.. because the right hand never knows what the
left is doing.
TIM: what
is the fee?I would lease my skin, mainly because I can't
think of an answer
TOBI: my
brain, in the hope they might make better use of it than
I have.
which Number could be a weapon?
TIM:Six.
You should never use six as a weapon.
TOBIAS: nine
- because it's a magic number - it can work for or
against you
TOBI: one
- because it's enough
You must lose one of these-why?
A Mobile Phone, Crisps or Jewellery?
TOBIAS: odd
question. Do you mean which one could I do without? - In
that case, a mobile phone - you only need it because
everyone else has one.
TOBI: a
mobile phone - because I don't like them
TIM: not a
good one - pass.

War-what is it good for? There must be something.
TIM: population
control.
TOBIAS: it's
only good for governments - it allows governments to test
media control and the effectiveness of it's own
propaganda. Governments can quickly gauge where
resistance is whether armed or intellectual - once these
trouble spots have been identified and dealt with, the
next war becomes easier.
TOBI: bad
people
Which one of these 20 questions do you remember?
TOBIAS: the
one about the public address system, started me thinking
about the Vatican for some reason.
TOBI: all
of them
TIM: none
of them.
